Missing posts point to search limits. Those come from labels the report doesn’t list, like search blacklisting or duplicate-text spam.
Not showing up when people search for you usually means an account-level label. Your report will say which one.
That is reply down-ranking. The report doesn’t cover it; in X’s code it lasts 14 to 30 days. Fewer, longer replies help.
Settings and habits that trigger labels 6
- “Mark media as sensitive” is onLikely keeps all your posts out of For You for non-followers. Required if you post adult media; otherwise turn it off.
- Three or more adult posts in a dayPuts a 7-day adult label on the whole account. Space those posts out.
- Suggestive profile photo or headerGets its own account label. Swap it, then request a review.
- A pinned post with a shortener or link pageIf X rates the domain low-quality, the account gets a 7-day spam label.
- Bursts of replies, mentions or followsSpam labels, most lasting 30 days. Slow the pace and vary your text.
- A notice, a lock or a verify promptFollow it first: delete the flagged post, pass the check or verify.
Get your full report from X 4 steps
- On a computer, open x.com/i/under_the_hood while logged in.
- You need an account at least a year old with 10+ posts last month.
- Click Download (the app can only view it).
- Drop the file into “I have my report”.
Reports cover the previous month and appear about ten days after it ends.
Account labels
These cover everything you post while they are on. Counted in days.
Post labels
A post counts if the label was on it at any point in its first 7 days, even if X removed it later.
What the report doesn’t show
X uses some signals that never appear in this report: search blacklisting, duplicate-text spam, replies pushed down as low quality, and softer adult-content ranking signals. A clean report doesn’t rule those out; the quick check under “No report yet” covers the common ones.

Explained
No shadowbans.Just labels.
X says it doesn’t shadow ban. What it does is limit reach, which it calls “freedom of speech, not reach”. Labels on a post or an account can keep it out of four places.
- 01For You, for non-followersThe most common one. Your followers still see you; new people don’t.
- 02SearchPosts or accounts left out of results and suggestions.
- 03Logged-out and under-18 viewersMostly adult-content labels.
- 04Everywhere but your profileRule breaks X leaves up but limits.
Since August 2026, X’s Under the Hood page shows which labels were on your posts and account last month. The report is short on explanation. This page fills that in from X’s own open-source code.

How we know. And what we don’t.
- The label list and X’s wording come from the report generator inxai-org/x-algorithm (Apache 2.0), commit
77d431a, checked September 2026. - Who can still see a post comes from X’s visibility rules in the same code (posts, accounts). Those cover the For You feed. Search effects come from Twitter’s 2023 open-source code and X’s help pages, so they are marked “likely”.
- Durations are the expiry times written into X’s labelling rules. “No expiry in the published code” doesn’t mean permanent.
- X’s help pages: reach limited,enforcement options,media settings,locked accounts,appeals.
- Fixes are tagged “X says” when X’s help pages or notices say so, and “Our advice” when they are our reading of the code. Nothing here can guarantee a label comes off: only X decides that.

FAQ
Questions.Answered.
Does X shadowban accounts?
X says it doesn’t “shadow ban” and that you can always see posts from people you follow. What it does do is limit reach: its labels can keep posts out of For You for people who don’t follow you, out of search, away from logged-out viewers, or restricted to your profile. That is what most people mean by a shadowban, and it is what this checker explains.
What is X’s Under the Hood report?
A monthly report X started testing in August 2026 and opened to every eligible account in September 2026. It lists the labels that may have limited the visibility of your posts or your account in the previous month, with how many posts or days each one covered and X’s own description of it.
Is my report uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The checker reads the file in your browser and never sends it to us or anyone else. Close the tab and it is gone. We only count that a check ran and how many labels it found, never what the report says.
Why can’t I download my report?
The Download button only appears on X in a computer browser; the app lets you view the report but not download it. You also need an account at least a year old with 10 or more posts in the previous month, and the report shows up about ten days after the month ends.
How long does a shadowban on X last?
It depends on the label. In X’s published code, the account-level adult-content labels last 7 days (3 for some high-reputation accounts), most account spam labels last 30 days, and pinning a post with a low-quality link gives a 7-day spam label. Post labels stay on the post. Locks last until you delete the flagged post, pass a security check or win an appeal. X can change these at any time.
My report is empty but my reach dropped. Why?
Two common reasons. Some signals never appear in the report, including search blacklisting, duplicate-text spam and replies pushed down as low quality. And most drops aren’t labels at all: reach moves with how people respond to your posts, when you post and what else is competing for attention. The quick check under “No report yet” tests search and replies in about a minute.
How do I get a label removed?
Fix the cause first (the card for each label says how), then appeal through X’s appeal form or the review option in the notice, if X sent you one. Some labels simply expire. Only X can remove a label: no tool or agency can do it for you, whatever they claim.
Does marking my media as sensitive hurt my reach?
Per X’s published code, the account setting “Mark media you post as containing material that may be sensitive” likely keeps your posts out of For You for people who don’t follow you. X still requires it if you regularly post sensitive media. If you only post it now and then, flagging those individual photos or videos when you upload them is the narrower option.
Is this tool affiliated with X?
No. AIGNCY Media is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by X Corp. The explanations are based on X’s open-source code (xai-org/x-algorithm) and X’s help pages as of September 2026, and they can go out of date when X changes things.
Can AIGNCY Media fix a shadowban?
We can’t remove labels; only X can. What we do is run distribution: the accounts, the pages and the posting, following each platform’s rules, so your content reaches more of the people it should. If a label is holding you back, fix it first using the steps here.
