Benchmarks by follower count

Medians from Influencer Marketing Factory × HypeAuditor, Creator Economy Report 2026 (2025 posts). “Typical” is our rounded range around the median, not a published figure.

Feed posts are rated by followers. If you enter views (mostly Reels), you also get a views-based rate, rated against Reels medians.

TikTok medians barely move with account size (7.4% to 8.1% of views), so one band covers every tier. There is no trustworthy creator data for the by-followers rate, so it has no band.

X and Threads

No published creator data by account size. For reference, Buffer’s 2026 reportputs the median at about 2.5% of reach on X and 3.6% on Threads, across all kinds of accounts. The calculator shows your rate next to that figure without rating it.

Method

The maths.No black box.

Why totals: most apps show per-post numbers, so adding up your last 10 to 20 posts is quicker than averaging. Leave out a viral post so one outlier doesn’t skew the result.

FAQ

Questions.Answered.

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on the platform and your size. On Instagram, the median for accounts with 1K to 10K followers is about 2.5% of followers per post, falling to about 0.5% past a million. On TikTok it is about 8% of views at every size. The tables on this page give the typical range for each tier.

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add up the likes and comments (plus shares on TikTok, X and Threads) across your recent posts. Divide by the number of posts and by your followers for a follower-based rate, or by total views for a views-based rate, then multiply by 100. The calculator does both where it makes sense.

Should I use followers or views?

Use the one the benchmark uses. Instagram feed posts are usually measured against followers. TikTok, Reels, YouTube, X and Threads are measured against views, because who sees a post depends on the algorithm more than your follower count. The two numbers aren’t comparable with each other.

Why does engagement rate drop as accounts grow?

Bigger audiences include more casual followers, and reach grows faster than the share of people who interact. It is normal and is why every benchmark here is split by follower tier.

Why does one viral post throw off my number?

The calculator averages your totals. One post with ten times your usual likes lifts the average well above what is normal for you, while the benchmarks are medians. Leave the outlier out for a fair comparison.

Where do the benchmarks come from?

Medians from The Influencer Marketing Factory and HypeAuditor’s Creator Economy Report 2026 (2025 posts from about 5.2 million Instagram, 3 million TikTok and 1.1 million YouTube accounts, mostly US audiences). The low, typical and strong cut-offs are our own rounding around those medians. For X and Threads there is no reliable data by account size, so we show a single reference figure from Buffer instead of a rating.

Do you look up or store my account?

No. You type the numbers in and the maths runs in your browser. Nothing is looked up, scraped or saved.

Does a higher engagement rate mean more money?

Not directly, and we don’t make income claims. Engagement shows how your audience responds. What that turns into depends on your offer, your links and your niche.
